St Brendan and the Whale is from my range of 'Large Original Artworks' that are available framed for collection or can be posted unframed in a tube to prevent damage.


This image is based on the manuscripts of the Navigatio Sancti Brendani Abbatis that record the journey of Irish Monks sailing across the Atlantic in a leather boat long before Columbus. The monks land on what they think is a small island and light a fire however the island is in fact a whale.

  • The image is created by hand on my etching press and then painted with watercolours and pastels. I create a number of versions from each plate but each one is unique.
