Market Stall

I sell my work directly from my stall at St George's Market Belfast on Saturdays. This historic indoor market is housed in a beautiful old building and is popular with locals and visitors. I love being a part of it as the atmosphere is great and I get a chance to talk to people about my work.

Painting

I work in a range of mediums but have always preferred watercolours. Subjects vary between urban and rural themes and the images are often further developed through printmaking or incorporated into cartography. I also sketch outdoors whenever possible and usually start the day with a quick sketch to get me going.
 Printmaking
I am a member of Belfast Print Workshop and work mainly with etching,  silk  screen printing, lino cut  and collograph. I'm very lucky to have my own etching press so usually work from my studio.
 Painting Classes
Prior to the Covid 19 pandemic I had been tutoring an art class in Hannahstown Community Center on the outskirts of Belfast. I ran the class for over 10 years. We still have a permanent exhibition of about 80 paintings on display in the hall however access times are now restricted.
Mourne Coast Cottage
My business started out as Mourne Coast Cottage. This referred to self catering accommodation that I used to rent out.  Its an amazing place sandwiched between the mountains and the sea with a resident donkey called Romany.  I no longer rent it out to visitors but I go there myself at some stage during the week to relax, paint and walk in the mountains, For many years, I wrote and illustrated a weekly column for the Mourne Observer about life in the Mournes and my artwork is still derived from the things I see when out walking in the Mournes or the Belfast Hills.  Mourne Coast Cottage is also  the name I still use for my Market Stall.

Picture Framing

I make my own frames and mount my artworks using top quality acid free materials Every frame is handmade. I start with bare wood mouldings and create each frame individually to suit the artwork. I have a dedicated workshop with professional equipment but no longer offer a bespoke framing service as I'm too busy keeping up with my own work
